My Professional Goals

In my high school years never did I think I would choose this path to become an educator. My high school years I thought I had my life made up. I knew I wanted to make a difference in people lives and I also wanted to make “big” money so I had chosen nursing. I took classes at a community college while I was in high school to become a CNA(Certified Nurse Assistance) to get me started on what I thought was going to be my career. Well once I finished up those courses and took my exam, I began to work. I worked at an senior citizen facility home for 2years; worse years of my life. The way the nurses treated the patients broke my heart and I knew that there was nothing I could do to change that. I’ve complained plenty of times management about the situation even talk to families about switching their family members to a better facility but nothing changed.it broke my heart because i started putting my personal life in the situation as if it was one of my family members and when a member of management told me to keep my feelings out of it or quit and i did just that. That was no way a human being should have been treated the way they treated them patients. Then I started subbing  three times out of a week just for extra money for my bills and I enjoyed every chance I got when I subbed. I always said whatever profession i get will not have anything to do with me dealing with kids eight hours straight but i apparently loved it when i took on a long term position. One of the teachers at the elementary i always subbed at was out having a baby so I became a long term sub until she got back. It was a 2nd grade class I will never forget this moment that changed my life. Those kids in that 2nd grade class help me discover my career; I loved those kids with everything in me. I enjoyed working with them and teaching them. I felt like when I became a sub not only was I their temporary teacher but I was also their mom, their protector, their doctor, their nurse, provider and ect.. I felt as if I had kids of my own and that feeling was a warm feeling to my heart.  It touched me when the teacher had came back to take over her class. I had gotten so many thank you cards and a overviews from other teachers how well I did and I was asked have I ever decided to go into teaching which I never had, but from that experience it made me take in consideration of teaching. So since then  I have chosen a career in education because  I believe that teachers individually and collectively have the ability to not only change the world, but to improve it.  Within the process of teaching I hope to be remembered in history as a teacher of inspiration. A number of great teachers that I have had throughout my education have become my heroes and role models.  I began to understand in high school that great teachers have skills that I wanted to learn.  I want to follow their lead.  I remember when my teachers were good at explaining content, were patient yet firm with me and other students in the class, were always fair, set high expectations and knew how to motivate us. Having teachers like I had was who I tend to become one day. I understand that my personal teaching style will evolve as I draw on my own strengths, knowledge, skills, values, and experiences.  I always told myself when  I start teaching I want my children to learn in a safe and comfortable environment so that way their self esteem will be increased. A child with high self esteem will strive for and accomplish any goals they set for themselves and as their teacher I will help them strive for them goals.  Why do I want to become a teacher?  I want the opportunity to make a difference, to change the future. I want the best for the generation(s) I will be teaching. I want my students to love and engage and be involved into school like I was. I want to be an excellent teacher to excellent students. Which an excellent teacher is not just someone who explains work and make you do it on your own but a teacher who demonstrates and relate lessons to personal lives . One who goes that extra mile for her students make them believe and achieve their dreams and goals. I just want to be that teacher who can be there to inspire another human being. For many reasons this is why I want to become a teacher, I want to inspire the children who will be representing the future of our nation.
